Sagebrush Lamp - getting warmed up....

When I think of New Mexico, how can I not think of sage, its meaning, its smell. The colors I chose were inspired by how I have seen sagebrush in its natural environment. As a teal or gray colored green bush, surrounded by golden grasses in the prairies, with a backdrop of a dusky orange sunset sky.

These pieces show the potential design of the crown of the lamp. Tarnished silver sun faces, pieces of the vase from its stand, a green planter (broken), clear and gold glass gems, white and orange glass, with tan colored glass that came from an antique hanging glass lampshade.

I am still not done with it yet. It is helpful for me to see the design in this way, so I can study the pictures for awhile...

The broken base, which will become a lamp stand. This next layer (from glass in the background) must be solid, still interesting, and shaped in such a way to allow access for crystal little lights to be push up inside and throughout.

Silver frame blends well with the other colors. One photo is with a flash the other is not. Glass looks different at different times. I can't wait to see what it looks like with the sunlight reflected from the back. OH wow -

Golden metallic glass for mountains, geodes as bushes, enchanted sunset with a streak of chalky lavender...(believe me - it works!) and a blue green/teal sky. This cut layer is the most basic of the design, it is the first of many other layers that I will add to this piece.

The creativity has begin...

This past Saturday I went and bought all the supplies I would need to begin to create new glass art for the Taos, New Mexico "Walking on Glass Tour".

Photos - or maybe "my" photos don't always photograph the glass in their true colors that I see them in at the time, but I do my best. Imagine all of these colors with light reflected from behind and in front, then they really become illuminated and enhanced.

I bought lots of unusual designs and styles of glass, in addition to "found objects" that I use in detail. The "found objects" don't general come to me until the last layering of any design. The flat glass constitutes the first basic foundation of each design.

I often do not have, but a general idea or direction as to where an art project/ journey will take me - I just made the selections based on images of colors I had been studying over the last few weeks and what colors I was drawn to at the time. Later this week, I plan to make a visit to my favorite store in Shawnee, Oklahoma,. called, "Green's Corner" - this is where I find the most unusual "found objects" for the detail in most of my artwork.

Its is actually a bright teal, or bluegreen, but the photo pulled out a lot of the green...

Blue glass with unusual texture, looks like leaves or feathers.

Red, hand blown flat glass. I had to hold the panel up with one hand...so what you see is my table and studio through the red glass....

Saucer that was two big leaves. This glass still needs to be cleaned and washed before I use it within a piece. It is a teal, sage color.

These two pieces, one above and one below are exactly the same glass. One photo was with a flash and on without. This glass changes depending upon how much light is reflected on it.

There are five possible spaces where my art can go. Today I measured the spaces out on paper. This gave me a good visual as to how big and what kind of shapes the measurements made.

I have several frame options that I can go with now.

This past week I spent some time in Iron Mountain, Michigan. I was there for a week. This is moose country...although I didn't see any moose, I was amazed at all this tall skinny trees.

a few things I did during my week at home.....

A closer look at the trio inside someones home.....another photo is below. One photo is during the bright light - the other is a later time during the day. At night-time, the colors of glass look different.
I was on the road traveling for five weeks. California, Illinois, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. I had one week at home before I headed out again on Easter Sunday for another four weeks in travel. Personal time becomes so precious so I chose to plug myself into the things that fuel my engine. These next few entries lists some things I did.

I sent off some information about my glass art to a gallery in Taos, New Mexico this week. Victoria this is for you. The photo above was a private commission.

Some pieces from my "Spirit of the West" collection. This collection was successfully juried into an Exhibit at the Price Tower Art Center last August in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.


This piece now hangs in Cottonwood, California and is no longer for sale. I do enjoy simple landscape designs. This is titled: Oklahoma Abstract Sunset, which was inspired by the view I had during my long jogs on an Oklahoma summer evening around dusk.

"Pawnee Belle" - still one of my favorites. Her tassels from her coat came from a broken lampshade, Indian head nickles adorn her jacket. I completed two other glass portraits which included Medicine Man and Osage Warrior.

The Buffalo - Western Landscape collection. The glass panels were hung with horse harness that geodes hung loosely from. They were turquoise in color. I liked the idea of combining glass with leather and wood and natural glass rocks.

Look at the face of this calf - dreamy - isn't it? I was drawn to the colors that this artist used with the subject. The artist's name is Paula Jones who is also becoming a new artful friend. Visit her art at the Act One Gallery in Taos, New Mexico.

admired my own art in my house....

I wish I could say this is my own art, but it is only on loan. Jack Hill painted this and I just love it. Psychdelic flowers....coming atcha!!!

finished my own psychedelic painting - finally...really....seriously.

I just let myself go on this crazy painting. I was inspired by some works created by Jack Hill two years ago. I added glitter and these fuschia metal flowers to the design. I have no idea what I am doing when I paint and maybe that is a good thing....

cleaned out my school/bus studio....

My bus looks a little barren out there, but soon this area will be covered is green leaves, with branches hanging down that will frame this work of art-school bus. I went through glass I never would use, swept out the leaves, organized all my colors. I had not been inside except once since I had broken my ankle on Christmas Day. It is ready to go when I am ready.
